What’s next for the Shem Show?
A Shem Rock Interview:
Saturday, 17th May saw Oktagon standout Shem Rock win a dominant decision over Attila Korkmaz at Oktagon 71. The Scouse star wore a mouthguard with ‘Dana?’ printed on it after rumours surrounded Shem back in March, possibly making his debut at UFC London. After these rumours never came to fruition, Shem made noise the entire weekend and was even
seen speaking to Dana. However, after his performance Saturday night, he faced off with Oktagon featherweight and lightweight champion Losene Keita and asked for him next.
We reached out to Shem and asked him a few questions. Here's what he had to say:
In your last post-fight interview, you called out the Oktagon FW and LW champion
Losene Keita, all whilst wearing an interesting mouthguard. So would you prefer a
shot at the Oktagon belt or a UFC contract?
“Technically, I’m still an Oktagon athlete, I'm just coming to the end of my contract. These are questions for Ondřej & Pavol to have with my manager Graham Boylan and coach Paul Rimmer.
” If you chose a UFC contract, who would be your dream opponent for your debut?
“CM Punk. ”
Where would you ideally want to make your UFC debut, outside of the UK?
“Liverpool.”
I’ve selected a few fighters I think would be exciting matchups for you. How do you
see yourself matching up against:
● Chase Hooper
● Chris Duncan
● Jordan Vucenic
“I batter anyone, but I enjoy punching Chase Hooper the wool.”
Your teammate George Staines and your friend Dennis Frimpong both had impressive performances on Saturday night. What did you make of their performances, and what should they do next?
“Everyone performed to the level I knew they would. We train hard & smart, and it shows in the cage. ”
As someone who is known for their social media presence, what is it like training and being around Paddy Pimblett, who is also known for his social media presence? Is there any particular moment of influence you can talk about that he has given, or do you do it all yourself?
“Paddy’s just one of the lads and a top athlete and MMA fighter. It’s good to have him in the room and forging the way in the UFC, but the whole room is on fire right now.”
I’ve noticed on your social media that your mom plays a significant role in your
career, especially with your diet. Can you share with fans your favourite meal that
Mama Shem cooks?
“Erm, I’m not sure what my favourite meal is, but my favourite food I’d say is broccoli.”
With contract talks looming and big things on his radar, Shem Rock remains one of the most exciting fighters to watch in European MMA. Whether it’s a title shot in Oktagon or a debut on the UFC stage, or even his love for broccoli.
It's clear that the Shem Show is just beginning.
